Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has set himself a big goal as he wants to become a bowler like Mohammad Asif.
Asif is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most difficult bowlers ever as many batsmen acknowledged that he was a nightmare to face.
South Africa’s Hashim Amla, England’s Kevin Pietersen and India’s Robin Uthappa are among those who have called the 42-year-old the toughest bowler they have played.
On top of that, South Africa legend AB de Villiers said he would pick the Sheikhupura native to bowl for his life as he was “unplayable” with the new ball.
Considering how good Asif was, Faheem wants to replicate his success with the ball.
“I will try to become a bowler like Mohammad Asif. I cannot be like him, but nevertheless I will try,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Faheem has been having a greater impact while bowling as of late as during Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, he took three wickets in three games at an average of 22.33 and an economy rate of 7.44.
As for the tour of Bangladesh, which consisted of three T20Is, he claimed three wickets at an average of 20.66 and an economy rate of 7.75.
Following back-to-back series against Bangladesh, Pakistan embarked on tour of the West Indies, where Faheem went wicketless in both the T20I and ODI series.
He bounced back in style during the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah as he snapped up four wickets in five matches at an average of 17 and an economy rate of 8.50.
Pakistan are now involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
