Left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has questioned whether former captain Babar Azam or the entire Pakistan cricket system was at fault for underutilising spinner Abrar Ahmed and opening batsman Fakhar Zaman.
Babar Azam: “Our spinners aren’t taking wickets, which doesn’t help. That has a big effect because you need to take wickets in the middle overs”

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has lashed out at the team’s spinners for their lack of impact in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Imad Wasim: “I think Pakistan should play a regular spinner be it Shadab [Khan], Abrar [Ahmed] or Usama [Mir]”

Imad Wasim believes Pakistan need to pick a regular spinner and gave them three choices – Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed and Usama Mir.

Ramiz Raja: “Spinners can’t help you when they have been below par”

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has lashed out at the spinners in the national team, saying they can’t offer any help since they have “been below par.”
Imad Wasim: “We had been saying for a while that Fakhar Zaman is an impact player. Similarly, when Abrar will play, he will make an impact as well”

Imad Wasim, who recently retired from international cricket, has urged Pakistan to include mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in the ODI team as he is an “impact player” like opening batsman Fakhar Zaman.
Shadab Khan: “Usama Mir is performing well which is benefitting Pakistan”

Shadab Khan, the limited overs vice-captain, is glad to see fellow spinner Usama Mir performing well as it is “benefitting Pakistan.”
Ahmed Shehzad: “Usama Mir, we had been saying [to] give him chances before the World Cup to give him confidence… see, Usama is a wrist-spinner. He’s more effective when the ball is old”
