Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir: “If I get an offer to play international cricket elsewhere, I will definitely try to avail it – because a cricketer’s job is to play cricket. And if you’re getting the chance to play at the highest level, then why not?”

Pakistan spinner Usama Mir has hinted there is a possibility he might play for England in the future.
Mir is expected to obtain British citizenship by 2027 and recently signed a three-year T20 deal with Worcestershire.
The 29-year-old from Sialkot expressed his frustration at not getting regular chances with the men in green, which is why he is assessing his future.
Mir stressed that he would love to keep playing for Pakistan, but he hasn’t represented his country in an international match since April 2024.
“This is something way ahead – I honestly don’t know much about it. And I think there’s also a time period required to become internationally qualified, so I really don’t know what the scenario would be,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“But if I get an offer to play international cricket elsewhere, I will definitely try to avail it – because a cricketer’s job is to play cricket. And if you’re getting the chance to play at the highest level, then why not?
“Obviously, it’s a dream to play for your own country and to keep playing for it. But I don’t understand why I’m not being considered in the plans. I have to think about myself too, about my family. I’m not going to get stuck here – just keep playing domestic cricket and keep waiting without getting any security or stability.
“On the other hand, if I’m getting opportunities to play and to play good cricket – hopefully I’ll come to play county leagues and other leagues as well – then those opportunities should be availed.”
Mir did feature in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he took four wickets in seven matches for the Multan Sultans at an average of 55.50 and an economy rate of 9.31.
After PSL 10, he did not get selected to play in Pakistan’s T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the limited overs tour of the West Indies.
He continued to be overlooked for the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, which the men in green won.
Pakistan are now taking part in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.
They began their campaign with a 93-run win over Oman and will look to maintain their momentum in their highly-anticipated match against India on September 14 in Dubai.
