Pakistan spinner Usama Mir said batsman Hasan Nawaz reminds him of renowned opener Imran Nazir.
He noted that like Nazir, Hasan also plays a “high-risk” brand of cricket, which enables him to “win games single-handedly” when he is firing on all cylinders.
That said, Mir pointed out people need to lower their expectations of Nawaz as he can’t “score 50 or 100 in every match”.
Nawaz made headlines with an outstanding century in only his third T20I, which came against New Zealand earlier this year.
In that match, he hammered 105 not out off 45 balls, which included 10 boundaries and seven sixes.
He followed this up with a brilliant campaign in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he was the third-highest run-scorer with 399 runs in 12 matches for the Quetta Gladiators, which included a hundred and three fifties, at an average of 57 and a strike-rate of 162.19.
“Hasan Nawaz is a high-risk player. As a nation, we expect such players to score 50 or 100 in every match, but that’s not how it works. High-risk players aren’t consistent, but when they perform, they win games single-handedly. Hasan Nawaz reminds me of Imran Nazir,” Mir was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Hasan just finished representing Pakistan in a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and scored 121 runs, which included a top score of 51 not out, at an average of 60.50 and a strike-rate of 198.36.
Pakistan won the series 3-0.
