Former Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed has conceded that there are doubts about spinner Usama Mir’s fitness.
Aaqib, who has now been appointed as Pakistan’s Director of High-Performance, is well aware that Mir is trying to earn a recall to the national team.
However, in order for that to happen, he pointed out that the selectors need to be sure the 29-year-old’s body can hold up to the rigours of international cricket.
“We had discussions with Usama about his fitness. When making a comeback, you need to leave no room for doubt,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Mir has not represented his country since April 2024, meaning he was not selected for the 2025 Champions Trophy and Pakistan’s recent limited overs tour of New Zealand.
Currently, the Sialkot native is in action for the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has taken four wickets in seven matches at an average of 55.50 and an economy rate of 9.31.
PSL 10 is set to conclude on May 25.
