Former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf noted that Mohammad Abbas’ ability to do well and take wickets on “dead pitches” is the reason why he is a deadly bowler.

Yousuf’s comments come ahead of Pakistan’s Test series against England next month, where Abbas is expected to play a vital role with the ball.

In fact, Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali recently said that Abbas “is someone who can be a very important member of the attack for us”.

With the 30-year-old fast bowler having taken 75 wickets in 18 Tests at an average of 20.76, Yousuf is backing him to shine against England.

It should also be noted that Abbas has played in England before and even dominated when Pakistan toured the country in 2018 as in the two-Test series, he picked up 10 wickets at an average of 14.20.

“Pakistan’s bowling attack is a very good,” he said. “[Mohammad] Abbas has done well in the past, even on dead pitches in [the] UAE,” Yousuf told Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan are scheduled to play three Tests and three T20 Internationals against England, with the first Test starting on August 5 and the T20 series beginning on August 28.
