Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has revealed that all-rounder Faheem Ashraf was dropped from the national team since “his batting hasn’t gone to the level it should be”.

Faheem featured in Pakistan’s Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in Lahore in October, but was not picked for the ongoing tour of Australia.

Arthur noted that during his time as coach, he tried to develop Faheem into a solid all-rounder, but his batting let him down.

“We tried to develop Faheem Ashraf as well, although his batting hasn’t gone to the level it should be,” Arthur told ESPNcricinfo.

  2. I am really concerned about the criteria of judging a cricket player in Pakistan. Take an example of Fakhar Zaman, who was out for zero in champions trophy but no ball saved him. After that fluke century, he was taken to the heights by Pakistani media and cricket fans. What happened after that, a complete failure of that batsman. Faheem Ashraf is another example. Wahab Riaz is another player, a complete failure after that one over he bowled to Watson in the world cup match.
Pakistan should learn from other good teams where competition is so keen that even a very good player has to wait for his chances to be a part of the team to represent his country. There is no free ride to say the least.

    • Definitely agree. I feel some players are rushed into the team just like that. However the problem is that they are not ready for the hardships of international cricket because it’s a massive jump from domestic cricket.

I’m not saying don’t give new players a chance but the selectors have to be fair when it comes to players who have been performing for a few seasons now. Players like Fawad Alam have been doing exactly what was asked of them, but they still continue to be ignored.

The system needs to change because there are a lot of players who are doing well, but are not getting rewarded for it.
