Australia spinner Adam Zampa has admitted that facing Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi is a daunting task, saying “you’re just trying not to get hurt”.
In addition to his raw pace, Zampa pointed out that the Pakistan ODI captain “has a real knack for taking wickets”.
Afridi and Zampa recently went head-to-head during Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against Australia between May and June 2026. Afridi featured in every game and finished with seven wickets at an average of 12.14.
“One player I really enjoy watching is Shaheen Afridi… It always feels like something is happening when he’s bowling,” Zampa was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“He clearly knows what he’s doing and has a real knack for taking wickets. Facing him isn’t easy, most of the time, you’re just trying not to get hurt.”
Afridi was dropped for Pakistan’s two-Test series against the West Indies, which ended as a 1-1 draw, as well as the three-Test series against England, which the men in green lost 3-0.
He is now playing for Khan Research Laboratories in the President’s Trophy Grade-I, which is Pakistan’s first-class competition.
In his first game against Ghani, he scored 47 runs and took four wickets.
