Pakistan opener Saim Ayub has stated that he has never set his sights on becoming the number one or number two ranked player.
Instead of chasing individual rankings, the left-hander said he is concentrating on making an impact with the bat, ball, and in the field to help the men in green win matches.
“I have never focused on becoming number one or number two. The coaches help me a lot, and I try to learn from them. My aim is to contribute in batting, bowling and fielding. Rankings are not important – I focus on doing whatever I can to help the team win,” Ayub told Geo News.
Ayub was recently recalled to the Pakistan Test team for the three-match series against England, but only returned to the side for the 3rd Test in Birmingham.
In that match, he failed to do any damage with the bat, making a duck in both innings.
To make matters worse, the men in green ended up being whitewashed 3-0.
