Australia spinner Adam Zampa has named Shahid Afridi as his favourite Pakistan player, saying he loved the way the legendary all-rounder entertained fans.
Zampa revealed that as a youngster he aspired to be a batsman and was particularly captivated by the way Afridi “swung his bat”.
Although Afridi was a leg-spinner like Zampa, the Australian admitted it was the 46-year-old’s explosive batting that left the biggest impression on him.
“I just loved watching Shahid Afridi, not even because he was a leg-spinner, but because of the way he swung his bat. When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a batter. The way he entertained people really stood out,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
The Pakistan team just finished playing a three-Test series against England, where they were whitewashed 3-0.
