Former Pakistan pacer Rumman Raees has advised Test captain and top order batsman Babar Azam to consider retiring from T20Is.
Raees suggested that the 31-year-old should step away from the shortest format to focus on ODIs and Tests, warning that continued struggles in T20Is could negatively impact his performances in the other forms of the game.
“There is no doubt about his class or his batting. But in T20 cricket, I feel he should respectfully consider retirement and focus on [the] ODI and Test formats,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“When performance drops in one format, it can affect the others as well. T20 is short and sharp, but its impact reflects on your overall game.”
Azam recently captained Pakistan in their three-Test series against England, which the men in green lost 3-0.
He missed the 1st Test with a finger injury, but returned for the last two matches and amassed 97 runs, which included a top score of 76, at an average of 24.25.
