Pakistan batsman Abdullah Fazal has named legendary England opener Alastair Cook as his favourite player and “inspiration in batting”.
Cook is widely regarded as one of the finest opening batsmen in history and stands as the sixth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket with 12,472 runs, which included 33 centuries and 57 fifties, at an average of 46.95.
Fazal only recently made his international debut for Pakistan, featuring in a two-Test series against Bangladesh in May 2026 and accumulating 141 runs, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 35.25.
“Alastair Cook is my favourite [and] who’s my inspiration in batting,” the 23-year-old from Karachi was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X.
Pakistan recently played a three-Test series against England, which they lost 3-0, but Fazal did not take part in it despite being one of seven players called up to the squad for the 3rd Test in Birmingham.
