Former wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has lashed out at the current generation of Pakistan players, claiming they are more focused on personal milestones than team success.

He also pointed to a perceived lack of fight and pride when representing the national side.

Comparing the present setup to his own era, Akmal expressed frustration over the direction Pakistan cricket has taken in recent years, saying significant changes are needed.

“I’ve been very angry about the direction Pakistan cricket has taken over the last 6–7 years. Our generation played 14-15 years with passion and set high standards,” he was quoted as saying on Facebook.

“What hurts is that the new generation seems focused on personal milestones instead of playing for the team. Winning or losing is part of cricket – but where is the fight, the pride of representing Pakistan?”

Pakistan’s recent results have been mixed, having suffered a 2-0 whitewash in a Test series against Bangladesh before bouncing back to defeat Australia 2-1 in an ODI series.

The men in green are now gearing up for a tour of the West Indies, where they will play two Tests in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.
