Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has confirmed that top order batsman will continue to be backed even if he fails to score runs in the short term.

Salman highlighted Zaman’s experience and long-standing contributions, noting that the veteran “has been performing for Pakistan for the last 10 years”.

Considering how much he has done for the men in green over the last decade, he reiterated that he won’t axe the 36-year-old so hastily.

“Fakhar has been performing for Pakistan for the last 10 years. If he isn’t scoring right now, that’s okay – we will back him,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.

Zaman last played during the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he finished as the third-highest run-scorer with 401 runs in eight matches for the Lahore Qalandars, which included a century and four fifties, at an average of 57.28 and a strike-rate of 151.89.

After PSL 11, Pakistan lost 2-0 to Bangladesh in a Test series and beat Australia 2-1 in an ODI series. Zaman did not take part in both assignments.

Next up for Pakistan will be two Tests against the West Indies, with both matches being held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.
