Pakistan Television (PTV) head coach Mohammad Wasim believes Ali Usman is the “best left-arm spinner” in the country.

Usman has been a force to be reckoned with in domestic cricket and many feel he is on the cusp of being called up to the national team.

During the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA Trophy), the 32-year-old was the top wicket-taker with 48 wickets in eight matches for Multan Region, which included six five-wicket hauls, at an average of 21.10.

He followed that up with another brilliant campaign in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day), where he ended up being the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets in nine games for PTV at an average of 22.37.

As for the President’s Trophy Grade-I competition, Usman’s red-hot form continued as he claimed 25 wickets in four matches for PTV, which included three five-fors, at an average of 20.32.

Given how dominant he has been, Wasim, a former Pakistan chief selector, thinks no left-arm spinner is anywhere near Usman at the moment.

“Best left-arm spinner in Pakistan,” he said on X.

The Pakistan team recently played a two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0, but Usman was not included in the squad.

Next up for the men in green will be three ODIs against Australia in Rawalpindi and Lahore, which will take place from May 30 to June 4.

Pakistan Squad for Australia ODI Series: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Salman Ali Agha (vice captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Maaz Sadaqat, Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Rohail Nazir (wicketkeeper), Sahibzada Farhan, Shadab Khan, Shamyl Hussain, Sufyan Moqim
