Former Pakistan seamer Tanvir Ahmed believes spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan should not be part of the national team’s playing XI.

Tanvir argued that there are better options available at the moment, including spinners Usman Tariq and Sufyan Moqim.

Shadab recently captained Islamabad United in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and was the joint third-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 14.47 and an economy rate of 7.02.

He also contributed with the bat, accumulating 173 runs, which included a top score of 69 not out, at an average of 34.60 and a strike-rate of 141.80.

“I don’t think Shadab Khan deserves a place in Pakistan’s playing XI,” Tanvir was quoted as saying on Facebook.

Pakistan just concluded a two-Test tour of Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0, but Shadab was not part of the squad.

Their next assignment will be a three-match ODI series against Australia, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from May 30 to June 4.
