Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has praised legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan, saying he “was an incredible player of spin bowling”.

He added that Younis was “quite challenging” to bowl to, given his effective use of footwork and frequent reliance on the sweep shot.

Younis played 118 Tests and is the only Pakistan player to score 10,000 runs in the format as he ended up making 10,099 runs, which included 34 centuries and 33 fifties, at an average of 52.05.

He also featured in 265 ODIs and accumulated 7,249 runs, which included seven hundreds and 48 half-centuries, at an average of 31.24.

As for his T20I career, the 48-year-old from Mardan struck 442 runs in 25 matches, which included two fifties, at an average of 22.10.

“Younis Khan was an incredible player of spin bowling. He used his feet and swept a lot, and I found that quite challenging,” Lyon was quoted as saying by Khel Shel.

The Pakistan team are now playing a two-Test series against Bangladesh and find themselves trailing 1-0 after losing the 1st Test in Mirpur by 104 runs.

They are now looking to bounce back in the ongoing 2nd Test in Sylhet.
