Rashid Latif: “The decision to select a wicketkeeper for the national cricket team should be left to Sarfaraz Ahmed”

Rashid Latif believes former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed should be given full authority in selecting Pakistan’s next wicketkeeper.
Latif, himself a former skipper and wicketkeeper-batter, said Sarfaraz should be trusted given his experience in the role and his current position as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach.
In recent times, Mohammad Rizwan has been Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper, featuring across all three formats for the national side.
However, questions continue to be raised over the team’s long-term option, with players such as Usman Khan also being tested in the role.
“The decision to select a wicketkeeper for the national cricket team should be left to Sarfaraz Ahmed. Pakistan’s last two regular wicketkeeper-batters were Mohammad Rizwan and Sarfaraz. Apart from them, most other batters have been given the responsibility of wicketkeeping as well,” Latif was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X.
Sarfaraz is currently coaching the Pakistan team in their ongoing two-Test series against Bangladesh.
Pakistan lost the 1st Test in Mirpur by 104 runs and will look to bounce back in the 2nd Test, which starts on May 16 in Sylhet.
