Sameer Minhas: “I have been following AB de Villiers since childhood”

Pakistan rising star Sameer Minhas has revealed that he has followed legendary South Africa batter AB de Villiers since childhood.
De Villiers enjoyed an illustrious international career, scoring 47 centuries – 22 in Tests and 25 in ODIs – while maintaining batting averages of 50.66 in Tests, 53.50 in ODIs and 26.12 in T20Is.
Minhas is widely tipped to make his international debut soon, having emerged as one of Pakistan’s brightest young prospects.
The 19-year-old opener recently took part in the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup and amassed 197 runs in five matches for Pakistan Under-19, which included two fifties, at an average of 65.66.
He then went on to impress in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he scored 349 runs in 11 games for Islamabad United, which included three half-centuries, at an average of 38.77 and a strike-rate of 155.80.
“I have been following AB de Villiers since childhood,” the teenager, who was born in Multan, was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
Currently, Pakistan are touring Bangladesh for a two-Test series, but Minhas was not included in the team.
The 1st Test started on May 8 in Mirpur, while the 2nd Test will get underway on May 16 in Sylhet.
