Former Pakistan cricketer Faisal Iqbal has called for Salman Ali Agha to be promoted up the batting order, suggesting the T20I captain is currently batting too low.

Iqbal hailed Salman as an excellent batter but stressed that he needs more time at the crease to maximise his run-scoring potential.

He noted that batting in the middle order in T20Is often requires players to score quickly from the outset, which can impact consistency and lead to early dismissals.

As a result, Iqbal believes the 32-year-old should be moved up to number three or four.

“He’s doing an amazing job, but unfortunately in my opinion, his batting [position] is very down. He’s someone when he bats [at] the top [of] the order, like 3 [or] 4 as a middle order [batsman], in T20 cricket in [the] top order, you know you have got more chance of scoring runs,” he told PakPassion.

Salman recently featured in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), but failed to have much of an impact as he mustered 112 runs in 10 matches for the Karachi Kings at an average of 12.44 and a strike-rate of 119.14.

The Lahore-born batsman is now part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing two-Test series against Bangladesh.

The 1st Test began on May 8 in Mirpur.

Pakistan Squad for Bangladesh Test Series: Shan Masood (captain), Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Azan Awais, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper), Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi
