Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has questioned Faheem Ashraf’s role in the team, suggesting that even the all-rounder himself is unsure whether he is “playing as a bowler or as a batter”.
Faheem has had an impact with both the bat and ball since returning to the national team a few months ago.
While the 31-year-old’s performances are undeniably promising, Gul urged the men in green to clearly define the Kasur native’s primary role within the team.
“He himself doesn’t even know what his role is – whether he’s playing as a bowler or as a batter,” Gul was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
During Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, Faheem scored 59 runs in five matches at an average of 14.75 and a strike-rate of 143.90.
He also took four wickets at an average of 17 and an economy rate of 8.50.
Faheem then proceeded to play in the 2025 Asia Cup and amassed 53 runs in six games at an average of 17.66 and a strike-rate of 143.24.
Bowling-wise, he finished with six wickets at an average of 19.66 and an economy rate of 7.37.
The men in green made it to the final in the Asia Cup, but couldn’t get their hands on the trophy as India beat them by five wickets.
Pakistan will return to action very soon as they will host South Africa for two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs, which will be held from October 12 to November 8.
