Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson believes all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is the “best spin bowler in the world at the moment”.
Nawaz has had quite an impact since returning to the national team as he has taken wickets regularly and contributed handy runs with the bat lower down the order.
During Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, the 31-year-old took 10 wickets, which included a career-best five-wicket haul, at an average of 11.70 and an economy rate of 6.88.
He also amassed 120 runs at an average of 30 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
“We’ve got Mohammad Nawaz, who’s the best spin bowler in the world at the moment, and he’s been ranked that way over the last six months since he’s come back in the side,” Hesson was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Nawaz just finished playing in the 2025 Asia Cup, where he picked up two wickets in seven games at an average of 43.50 and an economy rate of 7.25.
Batting-wise, he made 113 runs at an average of 18.83 and a strike-rate of 136.14.
Pakistan beat Oman and the UAE in the group stage, but lost to India as well.
They fell to India again in the Super Four, but still managed to make it to the final after defeating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The men in green faced India in the Asia Cup final and ended up losing by five wickets.
Next up for Pakistan will be a home series against South Africa, which will consist of two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs to be played from October 12 to November 8.
