Usman Shinwari: “Players hide their injuries because there is no trust in the system”

Left-arm fast bowler Usman Shinwari has revealed that Pakistan players hide their injuries since “there is no trust in the system”.
Many cricketers have suffered major injuries over the past few years, most notably Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan.
However, Shinwari wouldn’t be surprised if more Pakistan players have issues that they refuse to disclose to the medical staff.
Most likely, it stems from their concern about losing their spot in the squad if they remain sidelined for too long.
“Players hide their injuries because there is no trust in the system,” Shinwari, who recently retired from international cricket, told PakPassion.
The Pakistan team have been extremely busy lately as they played a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which they won 3-0.
They then travelled to Bangladesh for three more T20Is, but ended up losing 2-1.
After back-to-back series against Bangladesh, the men in green went to the West Indies and came away with mixed results as they won the T20Is 2-1 but lost the ODIs 2-1.
Following their tour of the West Indies, Pakistan took on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which they won.
Most recently, they took part in the 2025 Asia Cup, where they beat Oman and the UAE in the group stage, but also lost to India.
In the Super Four, they fell to India again before fighting back to defeat Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which earned them a spot in the final.
Pakistan faced India in the final and they ended up losing by five wickets.
Pakistan will now host South Africa for a home series comprising two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs that will be held from October 12 to November 8.
