Pakistan Director of High-Performance Aaqib Javed said fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jnr is “getting fitter and bowling well” after recovering from a side strain.

Wasim Jnr has been playing for the Pakistan Shaheens recently and took part in the Top End T20 Series, which also included the Adelaide Strikers Academy, Australian Capital Territory, Bangladesh A, Chicago Kingsmen, Hobart Hurricanes Academy, Melbourne Renegades Academy, Melbourne Stars Academy, Nepal, Northern Territory Strike, and Perth Scorchers Academy.

The 24-year-old did well in the tournament, taking 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 16.60 and an economy rate of 8.30.

“Mohammad Wasim Jnr was sent there (Pakistan Shaheens) and he is getting fitter and bowling well,” Aaqib was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Since Wasim Jnr has been playing for the Shaheens, he did not feature in Pakistan’s T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, the limited overs tour of the West Indies, and the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.

He also isn’t part of Pakistan’s team for the ongoing 2025 Asia Cup, which is taking place in the UAE.

The men in green beat Oman and the UAE in the group stage, while losing to India as well.

They failed to defeat India again in the Super Four, but triumphed over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to book their spot in the final.

Pakistan will play arch-rivals India in the final of the Asia Cup on September 28 in Dubai.
