Pakistan batsman Babar Azam wants to see cricket matches held in Peshawar in the future.
There has been a lot of talk about bringing international cricket back to the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar.
The ground has not hosted an international match since Pakistan and India played an ODI there in February 2006.
Recently, Azam took part in a match at the stadium when the Peshawar Zalmi XI played a Legends XI in a flood relief match.
As it has been nearly 20 years since the last international match was held at the Arbab Niaz Stadium, Azam hopes it will be used again in the near future.
“Cricket matches should be played here in Peshawar,” the 30-year-old was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam has not been involved in most of Pakistan’s recent assignments, which include a three-match series against Bangladesh in Lahore, a tour of Bangladesh, a three-match series against the West Indies, and a tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.
He did take part in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies and scored 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
Pakistan are now playing in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.
The men in green beat Oman and the UAE in the group stage, while also losing to India.
They fell to India again in the Super Four, but bounced back to take down Sri Lanka by five wickets.
Next up for Pakistan will be a clash against Bangladesh on September 25 in Dubai.
