Former Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul said the national team is missing all-rounders who can have an impact in every department.
He noted that back in the day, the men in green were a serious threat because they had well-established all-rounders who made big contributions.
Gul pointed out that in order for Pakistan to become a dangerous side once again, they need to find proper, game-changing all-rounders.
“There is a big difference between this team and the ones we had before. Back then, our all-rounders were established and that’s why we dominated. Those all-rounders dominated in every department. Today, our batting is not firing and our bowlers are not taking wickets,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan recently played a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, which they won 3-0.
They didn’t have the same kind of success when they toured Bangladesh for three T20Is as they ended up losing 2-1.
Next up for the men in green was a white-ball tour of the West Indies, which concluded with them winning the T20I series 2-1 and losing the ODIs 2-1.
They then faced the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which they won.
Currently, Pakistan are featuring in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
They started off with a 93-run win over Oman before suffering a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of India.
Despite that loss, Pakistan fought back to beat the UAE by 41 runs and book their spot in the Super Four.
So far in the Super Four, the men in green have lost to India and beaten Sri Lanka.
Pakistan’s next game will be against Bangladesh on September 25 in Dubai.
