Spinner Mohammad Nawaz has named India’s Yuvraj Singh and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi as his favourite all-rounders.

Yuvraj and Afridi are considered to be among the greatest all-rounders from India and Pakistan respectively as they regularly had an impact with the bat and ball.

Nawaz is now playing a similar role in the Pakistan team as he is expected to contribute in both departments.

“My favourite all-rounder has always been Yuvraj Singh, and of course Shahid (Afridi) bhai – I grew up watching both of them a lot,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Nawaz recently toured Bangladesh with the Pakistan team for three T20Is and took three wickets at an average of 10.33 and an economy rate of 5.47.

He also scored 30 runs at an average of 10 and a strike-rate of 136.36.

The men in green then went to the West Indies and Nawaz kicked things off with seven wickets in three T20Is at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 6.36.

Batting-wise, he mustered 11 runs at an average of 5.50 and a strike-rate of 78.57.

As for the ODI series, he picked up three wickets in two games at an average of 25.66, while also scoring 28 runs at an average of 28.

After the tour of the West Indies, Pakistan went up against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which they won.

In the five games he played, Nawaz finished with 10 wickets, which included a career-best five-wicket haul, at an average of 11.70 and an economy rate of 6.88.

On top of that, he struck 120 runs at an average of 30 and a strike-rate of 133.33.

The men in green are now taking part in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.

In the opening game against Oman, which Pakistan won by 93 runs, Nawaz registered bowling figures of 1-13 off two overs and made 19 runs.

Pakistan’s next match will be against arch-rivals India on September 14 in Dubai.
