Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has lashed out at speedster Naseem Shah, accusing him of “not even putting in any effort”.
He added that the 22-year-old is injury prone and questioned how he even got selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore after his disappointing performance in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In PSL 10, Naseem took nine wickets in 10 games for Islamabad United at an average of 40.33 and an economy rate of 9.30.
Tanvir also asked why the selectors picked Naseem in the first place after he wasn’t included in the playing XI for all three T20Is against Bangladesh.
“Look, if you picked Naseem Shah for the Bangladesh series and didn’t play him, then why didn’t you play him? His performance in the PSL was completely poor. Just look at his fitness level, his run-up while running, his energy – he’s not even putting in any effort. He has injury issues, so how did he make it into the team?” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
After winning the T20I series in Lahore 3-0, Pakistan toured Bangladesh for another three-match T20I series, but were beaten 2-1.
The men in green are now facing the West Indies and kicked off their tour with a 2-1 win in the T20I series.
Naseem returned to action in the ongoing ODI series and has taken three wickets in one match at an average of 18.33.
The series is tied at 1-1 going into the 3rd ODI on August 12 in Trinidad.
