Former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin is thankful that he never got hit by one of Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s toe-crushing yorkers.
He admitted that the most dangerous delivery Akhtar had was the yorker, while also joking that he kept moving around when facing the Rawalpindi Express, which could explain why he never got hit.
“The yorker. No, I didn’t wear one. It’s hard to hit a moving target,” Haddin said on the Willow Talk Podcast.
In addition to recalling Akhtar’s deadly yorkers, he also admitted that he “couldn’t pick the ball up” when the Pakistan speedster was bowling.
“Couldn’t pick the ball up because it went behind,” he said.
Akhtar represented Pakistan in 46 Tests and took 178 wickets at an average of 25.69.
He was also involved in 163 ODIs and claimed 247 wickets at an average of 24.97.
As for his T20I career, the 49-year-old picked up 19 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 22.73.
It should be noted that Akhtar still holds the record for the fastest ball ever bowled in international cricket at 161.3 kph (100.2 mph).
The Pakistan team recently took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series in Lahore, which they won 3-0.
