Mushtaq Ahmed: “Babar Azam is not giving up”

Legendary Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has made it clear that star batsman Babar Azam “is not giving up” as he continues to fight through his rough patch.
Azam has been struggling to score runs consistently for months, but has shown glimpses of getting back to his best at times.
During the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), the 30-year-old had a strong campaign while captaining the Peshawar Zalmi as he accumulated 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
“Babar Azam is not giving up,” Mushtaq, who was the Zalmi’s spin bowling coach, was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
After PSL 10 ended, Azam was not picked for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
He also missed out on the tour of Bangladesh, where Pakistan lost the T20I series 2-1.
However, Azam was picked for Pakistan’s ongoing tour of the West Indies.
He missed the three-match T20I series, which the men in green won 2-1.
But, he is playing in the ODI series and has scored 47 runs in two games at an average of 23.50.
The series is tied at 1-1 going into the 3rd ODI on August 12 in Trinidad.
