Pakistan batsman Sohaib Maqsood has called Babar Azam the “backbone” of the Peshawar Zalmi.

Azam captains the Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Maqsood wants him to keep playing his natural game and regain some form so that he can potentially lead the franchise to a title in the future.

The 30-year-old just played in the PSL and had a good campaign as he amassed 288 runs in 10 matches, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.

“Play your natural game, the way you’ve played for the last eight years. Practice hard, regain your form, and trust your class – you’re Zalmi’s backbone,” Maqsood said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Geo Super.

Even though Azam did well in PSL 10, he was not included in Pakistan’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.

Pakistan are now touring Bangladesh and are 2-0 down in the three-match T20I series.

The men in green will be searching for a consolation win in the 3rd T20I on July 24 in Mirpur.

Pakistan Squad for Bangladesh T20I Series: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan (wicketkeeper), Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza and Sufiyan Muqeem
