Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir firmly believes Babar Azam is the country’s best cricketer right now.
Azam has been struggling to score runs consistently for months, but has shown signs of improving in his last couple of assignments.
The 30-year-old recently featured in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand and made 129 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 43.
He then proceeded to captain the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished with 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Despite Azam’s struggles with the bat, Amir still sees him as the number one cricketer in Pakistan.
“Babar is the best cricketer Pakistan has right now – there’s no doubt about it,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
After PSL 10 ended, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Azam was overlooked for it.
The men in green went on to win the series 3-0.
Pakistan will now take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series in Mirpur from July 20 to 24.
However, Azam was once again ignored by the selectors.
