Pakistan all-rounder Hussain Talat has thrown his support behind Babar Azam, saying he has performed at the highest level for many years.

Azam is currently going through a rough patch that has lasted for a lengthy period of time and has been heavily criticised for his runs drying up.

However, Talat noted that one bad patch shouldn’t spoil Azam’s reputation as a world-class batsman.

“Babar Azam has been giving performances for Pakistan since many years. A bad patch based on [a] few matches cannot define his class,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand and made 129 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 43.

He remained in solid form in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he captained the Peshawar Zalmi and finished with 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.

Following the conclusion of PSL 10, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Azam was not part of the team.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
