Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has admitted that certain types of criticism “hit personally” as they were not related to performance.
He pointed out that some people will get too personal when criticising players, such as poking fun at their hairstyle or their ability to talk.
The 22-year-old noted that this is unacceptable, especially when it comes from former players, who should be supporting the current crop of cricketers by offering advice to help them get better.
“When it comes to players who have actually played cricket for 10-15 years, you can discuss their performance – talk about how someone isn’t bowling well, isn’t batting well, or what mistakes they’re making. That’s fine,” Naseem was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“You can analyse what can be improved. However, I feel that getting too personal – commenting on how someone styles their hair or how they speak – crosses the line. These things hit personally.”
Naseem recently represented Pakistan in their three-match ODI series against New Zealand and took three wickets at an average of 38.
He then played for Islamabad United in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished with nine wickets in 10 matches at an average of 40.33 and an economy rate of 9.30.
Currently, Pakistan are taking on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Naseem was not included in the playing XI for the first two games.
The men in green are 2-0 up going into the 3rd T20I on June 1 in Lahore.
