Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes spinner Sufiyan Muqeem “stands out from the rest” given his performances for the national team.
Muqeem has taken seven wickets in three ODIs at an average of 18.57, while his record in T20Is is even better as he has claimed 18 wickets in 10 games at an average of 10.66 and an economy rate of 6.06.
The 25-year-old was recently involved in Pakistan’s limited overs tour of New Zealand and picked up two wickets in one T20I at an average of three and an economy rate of three.
He followed it up with three wickets in two ODIs at an average of 26.
“Sometimes, a player emerges who unites an entire country, and today, Sufiyan Muqeem demonstrated once again that he stands out from the rest with his exceptional performance,” Latif was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Following the New Zealand series, Muqeem took part in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), but only played three games for the Peshawar Zalmi and finished with one wicket at an average of 107 and an economy rate of 9.72.
Even though he has been stellar with the ball in T20Is for Pakistan, Muqeem wasn’t picked for the ongoing three-match series against Bangladesh, which the men in green lead 2-0.
The 3rd T20I will be held on June 1 in Lahore.
