Pakistan Director of High-Performance Aaqib Javed has labelled big-hitting batsman Fakhar Zaman as an “important player” who is “necessary for the team’s success”.
Zaman is capable of being a match-winner on his day and has produced a number of incredible performances over the years.
Recently, he featured in the 2025 Champions Trophy and scored 24 runs in the opening game against New Zealand before suffering an oblique injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament and Pakistan’s limited overs tour of New Zealand as well.
The 35-year-old made his return in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and played a significant role in leading the Lahore Qalandars to the title as he was the second-highest run-scorer with 439 runs in 13 matches, which included four fifties, at an average of 33.76 and a strike-rate of 152.96.
“Fakhar Zaman is an important player for us; his presence is necessary for the team’s success,” Aaqib was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Zaman is now in action in Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and has mustered one run in the one game he has played.
The men in green hold a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd T20I on June 1 in Lahore.
