Pakistan Director of High-Performance Aaqib Javed revealed he has asked fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf to “work on their skill sets”.
Aaqib, who served as head coach before being appointed the Director of High-Performance, particularly wants the duo to focus on getting reverse swing when bowling as he feels it will make them even more deadly.
Afridi has struggled for consistency as of late, while Rauf performed well in Pakistan’s last assignment, which was a limited overs tour of New Zealand.
During that tour, Rauf took eight wickets in four T20Is at an average of 12.25 before following it up with three wickets in two ODIs at an average of 37.66.
As for Afridi, he only featured in the five-match T20I series and finished with two wickets in four games at an average of 66.50.
“I have spoken to Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi, and I’ve asked them to go back and work on their skill sets,” Aaqib was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Afridi is now captaining the Lahore Qalandars in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), while Rauf is playing for the same franchise.
In the 10 matches he has played, Afridi has picked up 11 wickets at an average of 21.63 and an economy rate of 8.20.
Rauf, meanwhile, has taken 12 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 28 and an economy rate of 10.66.
PSL 10 resumed on May 17 after being postponed midway through and is set to end on May 25.
