Mohammad Amir: “Mohammad Rizwan… You’ve gone from a Ferrari to a rickshaw now”

Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir feels Mohammad Rizwan has gone from being a Ferrari to a rickshaw in regards to his captaincy.
Rizwan currently captains Pakistan in ODIs and also leads the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The 32-year-old used to be Pakistan’s T20I captain as well, but was replaced by Salman Ali Agha during the national team’s recent tour of New Zealand.
Amir noted that he was very excited to see how the men in green would do under Rizwan’s leadership.
However, the 33-year-old conceded that something has changed in Rizwan’s decision-making as some of the choices he has made recently have been “unusual”.
“Mohammad Rizwan… You’ve gone from a Ferrari to a rickshaw now (laughs). At one point, I admired him because he had experience captaining domestic cricket and the PSL, where he led his team to the finals,” Amir was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“His decision-making changed completely. I’m not sure what caused this shift since I haven’t been in the dressing room with him during that period. His choices now seem unusual. It seemed he would bring about positive changes. However, within a few months, it felt like he had drifted away from the cricketing mindset.
“If Rizwan claims he had no authority over selections, that’s not entirely true. The same influence that helped him become captain could have been used to shape the team, but he didn’t take that step. I don’t understand why.”
In the ongoing PSL, Rizwan has amassed 367 runs in 10 matches, which includes a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.
PSL 10 had earlier been postponed due to Pakistan’s border tensions with India, but restarted on May 17.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude on May 25.
