Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has taken aim at Babar Azam, saying he is nothing like legendary captain and batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Azam has been Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorer in all three formats for years, but he has been going through a rough patch for quite some time.

Recently, he scored 62 runs in three matches in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa at an average of 20.66.

He followed that up with 87 runs in two games in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which included a top score of 64, at an average of 43.50.

Despite having a better showing in the Champions Trophy, Hafeez has been less than impressed with Azam and feels he is nowhere near the level of Inzamam.

“Babar Azam is not Inzamam-ul-Haq,” he said on Game On Hai as quoted by Sports Tak.

Pakistan are now in New Zealand and just completed a five-match T20I series, which they lost 4-1.

Next up will be three ODIs, with the first match getting underway on March 29 in Napier.

Pakistan Squad for T20I Series against New Zealand: Hasan Nawaz, Omair Yousuf, Mohammad Haris, Abdul Samad, Salman Ali Agha (captain), Irfan Khan Niazi, Khushdil Shah, Shadab Khan, Abbas Afridi, Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Khan
