Nasser Hussain: “I want to see Shan Masood assert himself more as captain”

Former England captain Nasser Hussain wants Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood to “assert himself more” as a leader.
Hussain noted that in the three-Test series against England, Masood didn’t look like he was captaining the side.
Explaining why, he pointed out that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan seemed to be more of a captain as he was directing fielders where to go.
“I want to see Shan Masood assert himself more as captain. I see Rizwan waving his hands more in the field than Shan,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In the England series, Masood amassed 225 runs, which included a top score of 151, at an average of 45.
As for Rizwan, he made 99 runs at an average of 19.80.
Pakistan ended up beating England 2-1, which gave them their first Test series win on home soil since 2021.
After the England series, Pakistan toured Australia to play three ODIs and three T20Is. It was where Rizwan made his debut as Pakistan’s white-ball captain.
In the ODI series, Rizwan scored 74 runs at an average of 74 as Pakistan went on to win 2-1, which gave them their first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.
As for the T20Is, he was restricted to 16 runs in two games at an average of eight.
After this, Pakistan travelled to Zimbabwe and Rizwan struck 56 runs in three ODIs at an average of 56.
He was then rested for the three-match T20I series, which the men in green won 2-1.
Currently, Pakistan are in South Africa and began by losing the T20I series 2-0, even though Rizwan accumulated 85 runs, which included a top score of 74, at an average of 42.50.
The two sides are now facing each other in a three-match ODI series, which Pakistan leads 1-0 going into the 2nd ODI on December 19 in Cape Town.
Once the ODIs conclude, Pakistan and South Africa will play two Tests, which will begin on December 26 in Centurion.
