Former Pakistan pace bowler Abdur Rauf has slammed batsman Fakhar Zaman for his recent remarks regarding Babar Azam, saying “we did not make you a political leader”.
Zaman got into trouble for criticising the decision to remove Azam from the Test squad midway through the three-match series against England.
Not only did the 34-year-old fail to secure a central contract for the 2024/25 season, he was also dropped for the limited overs series against Australia and Zimbabwe.
Rauf felt Zaman should have kept his opinions to himself and advised him to focus on his cricket instead.
“We did not make you a political leader,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
During their series against Australia, Pakistan won the ODI leg 2-1 but were comprehensively beaten 3-0 in the T20Is.
They will now travel to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
