Wasim Akram: “Babar Azam should forget the captaincy and must focus on scoring runs and enjoy his cricket”

Pakistan pace icon Wasim Akram has advised Babar Azam to forget about the captaincy and “focus on scoring runs”.
Azam has been captain on two separate occasions, with his latest tenure as limited overs skipper coming to an end when he resigned in October 2024.
Particularly during his second stint as captain, the 30-year-old saw his form take a turn for the worse as he struggled to score runs regularly.
With his reign as leader now over, Wasim has urged Azam to concentrate on getting back in form and posting big scores.
“Babar Azam should forget the captaincy and must focus on scoring runs and enjoy his cricket,” the Sultan of Swing was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently played in Pakistan’s three-Test series against England, but was only selected for the first Test, where he made scores of 30 and 5.
He then featured in the limited overs series against Australia and scored 80 runs in three ODIs at an average of 80.
Following that, he amassed 47 runs in three T20Is at an average of 15.66.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a white-ball tour of Zimbabwe, where they will three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
