Former all-rounder Yasir Arafat said Pakistan cricket needs “strong characters” like national selector Aaqib Javed.
Reports indicate that Javed could even become Pakistan’s new head coach in all three formats after the team’s two-Test series against South Africa, which will take place from December 2024 to January 2025.
Currently, the men in green are without a limited overs head coach as Gary Kirsten resigned from the role. In regards to the Test team, Jason Gillespie remains in charge, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have not guaranteed if he will continue after the South Africa Test series.
While it remains to be seen what happens, Arafat thinks involving Javed in Pakistan cricket is a good move as he is someone who is not afraid of making tough decisions.
“Pakistan cricket needs strong characters like Aaqib Javed,” he told PakPassion.
The Pakistan team recently lost 2-0 to Bangladesh in a Test series before bouncing back to beat England 2-1 in a three-match Test series.
The men in green are now involved in a limited overs tour of Australia and triumphed 2-1 in the ODI leg.
However, they have already lost the T20I series as Australia hold a 2-0 lead going into the third game on November 18 in Hobart.
After this, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
