Pakistan batsman Umar Amin said there is nothing stopping him from making an international comeback if veteran cricketer Fawad Alam was able to do it.
Fawad returned to the Test team in 2020 after more than 10 years and went on to perform brilliantly before cooling off and subsequently losing his place in the side.
Despite this, Amin, who last played for his country in January 2018, is eager to follow in Fawad’s footsteps by continuing to perform well in domestic cricket and earning a recall.
“I’ve played a lot of cricket with Fawad Bhai, and he’s an example in front of me because he made a comeback after a long time. He also had consistent performances. So, I am very hopeful based on my good performances. My focus is just to give the best performance I can, do what is within my control, and not think too much about what’s beyond my control,” the 34-year-old from Rawalpindi told Cricket Pakistan.
Amin did not feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the men in green were knocked out in the group stage.
He also wasn’t selected for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which Pakistan lost 2-0.
Currently, he is playing for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament going on in Faisalabad.
In the two games he has featured in, Amin has accumulated 85 runs, which includes a top score of 75, at an average of 42.50.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which is set to take place from October 7 to 28.
