Former Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali has questioned why the selectors are continuing to overlook senior fast bowler Mohammad Abbas.
His remarks come after the men in green’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they embarrassingly lost 2-0.
Both matches were played in Rawalpindi and Azhar believes that someone like Abbas, who can swing the ball and maintain a perfect line and length, would have thrived in such conditions.
“Why can’t we play Mohammad Abbas on these kind of tracks? Just asking,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Abbas last played for Pakistan in August 2021 and is currently in action for Hampshire in England’s County Championship.
In this season’s County Championship, the 34-year-old from Sialkot has taken 31 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 25.
While Abbas is playing in England, many of the other Pakistan players are now participating in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition being held in Faisalabad.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which will take place from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.
