Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie confirmed left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi is “working on a few aspects of his bowling”.
He noted this was the reason the 24-year-old was not part of the playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh.
Afridi was nowhere near his best in the two-Test series as he took two wickets in the first Test at an average of 48.
Considering he is Pakistan’s pace spearhead in all three formats, Gillespie wants him firing on all cylinders and thus said Afridi is working closely with assistant coach Azhar Mahmood.
“He’s working on a few aspects of his bowling to ensure he’s as fit as possible. He’s been collaborating well with Azhar Mahmood, which has been fantastic,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan failed to impress throughout their Test series against Bangladesh and were ultimately whitewashed 2-0.
Afridi is now captaining the Lions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition taking place in Faisalabad.
So far, he has taken seven wickets in three games at an average of 29.42.
Next up for Afridi and the rest of the Pakistan team will be a three-match Test series against England, which will be played from October 7 to 28.
