Former Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz confirmed strong domestic performances were the key reason fast bowler Abbas Afridi was selected in the national team.
Afridi, whose uncle is Wahab, has become a crucial member of Pakistan’s T20I squad and has taken 16 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 18.43 and an economy rate of 9.26.
The 23-year-old recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but went wicketless in the one game he played, which came against Ireland.
Wahab noted that in addition to doing well on the domestic circuit, Afridi possesses a plethora of variations, making him even more lethal.
“Abbas’ strengths and the reason for his selection are his performance in domestic cricket. And his variations are quite effective,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
Afridi was not picked for Pakistan’s recent two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0.
