India head coach Gautam Gambhir has crowned Babar Azam Pakistan’s best batsman in history.
Gambhir’s comments came when he was defending the 29-year-old from all the criticism he has received over the past few months.
Azam hasn’t been able to score runs consistently, which is what earned him the reputation as one of the top batsmen in the sport.
Pakistan have produced a number of exceptional batters that have gone on to have illustrious international careers, but Gambhir reiterated that Azam is number one in his eyes.
“He is undoubtedly the best batter in the history of Pakistan cricket,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh and made 64 runs at an average of 16.
Pakistan were nowhere near their best in the series and subsequently lost 2-0.
