Former Pakistan selector Wahab Riaz has confirmed that there were plans to give promising fast bowlers Abbas Afridi and Zaman Khan more playing time.
Both players have shown immense potential and have been identified as potential future stars.
However, Afridi last played international cricket in June 2024, while Zaman’s last appearance for the men in green came in April 2024.
Wahab noted that he wanted to keep the duo in the squad as part of the rotation policy, which would have seen them added to the playing XI when the regular bowlers were rested or injured.
“We were looking at having young bowlers in bowling as well, like Abbas Afridi and Zaman Khan,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
Afridi and Zaman did not feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the men in green failed to make it out of the group stage.
They were also not selected for the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh, in which Pakistan find themselves trailing 1-0 after losing the first Test by 10 wickets.
The second Test got underway on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
