Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie believes middle order batsman Salman Ali Agha is “good enough to be classified as a specialist spinner”.

His comments come after questions were brought up about why the men in green only picked one main spinner in Abrar Ahmed for the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Gillespie pointed out that he sees “a lot of potential” in Salman and knows the 30-year-old can develop into an excellent all-rounder.

“You can look into whatever you want. But to start, I think we’ve got two special spinners. Salman Ali Agha is good enough to be classified as a specialist spinner. From what I’ve seen, he has a lot of potential with his off-spin,” the former Australia fast bowler was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Salman did not feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan were knocked out in the group stage.

In the first Test against Bangladesh, which Pakistan lost by 10 wickets, he went wicketless and made scores of 19 and 0.

The second Test will get underway on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
